As a mum of 3, I know how difficult things can be when you’re not prepared for the arrival of a new baby. My first, who is now 29 years old, was especially difficult for me. I went from sleeping a sound eight hours every night to two or three if I was lucky.

When baby was born, my midwife told me the bare minimum basics of why she might cry. She could have a dirty nappy, she might want to be held or she could be hungry. Despite me trying my best to follow the midwife’s advice (I can’t even count how many times I fed her), nothing seemed to be working. It took me and my baby a long while to get through this period and before that I felt helpless and often cried thinking that I didn’t know how to care for my own baby.

Six years later I had my second daughter and had a much better experience. I had spoken with a Maternity Night Nanny that gave me the advice I should have gotten the first time around. After learning more about her work I started working as a Night Nanny myself and I couldn’t believe how rewarding it was helping parents get their newborns to sleep. 19 years later, I’m running Advanced Knowledge in Baby Practices and I simply can’t imagine doing anything else. I love my work and helping new mum’s to get the advice and help that they deserve is a true blessing.
